EDG's proven experience has been gained in over a quarter of a century of offshore experience

EDG's offshore expertise covers all corners of the globe where oil and gas exploration and production takes place. EDG systems can be found from the Far East to South America from Africa to the North Sea.  Initially and best known for control systems and power generation EDG expertise quickly grew to cover many related disciplines including instrumentation, Fire and Gas, ESD, telecomms to mention just a few.

Typical of such systems would be the Upper Zakum field where EDG engineered one of the largest control systems in the world.  EDG's responsibilities in this case included conceptual design, detailed engineering, vendor evaluation, procurement, construction management, commissioning and training for the control systems as well as all wellhead instrumentation and power generation for over 70 platforms.

EDG provided all of the design and construction of the gas compressor module for Zulu Junction #1 platform in the NW Java Sea in Indonesia.  It consisted of 2 Demag/DeLaval centrifugal gas compressors, each driven by an individual gas turbine, together with controls, vessels, coolers, heaters and pipe work.  EDG's scope included complete process engineering design, mechanical design piping design, electrical design and instrumentation design.

EDG possesses specialized experience in the designing of power generation modules for offshore platforms located in remote areas of the world. EDG was chosen to be the prime contractor for the design, procurement, fabrication, commissioning, load out and tie down of the complete turbine generator and power control module on a turnkey basis for the Takula Field, Offshore Cabinda, Angola, West Africa. The function of this platform (shown left) is for the exploitation of the oil and gas reserves in 180 feet of water located thirty miles offshore producing 80,000 BPD and generating approximately 5MW of power.

Contributing to EDG's continued success in performing this type of sophisticated engineering endeavour, is our unique expertise in meeting the rigid requirements of space and weight constraints. This three level module, 75 ft x 60 ft. x 56 ft, weighs just under 400 tons. The lower level houses 2 Solar-Centaurs producing 2.4MW each and also the Power Control Building and waste heat recovery system for crude oil heating. The integral Power Control Building houses the motor control centres, switchgear, and offices. The top level houses the emergency generator and battery room building, fuel gas filter skids, deioniser package, diesel recirculation, pumps, air start systems and a communications building. Above the top deck is a heliport with safety net.

On Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela, EDG supplied the design philosophies and detailed engineering of the structural, electrical, instrumentation, fire/gas detection, and SCADA systems for the Lagoven West Urdancta Gas Compression Plant for Dresser Industries, Energy Systems Division. The overall Lagoven complex is comprised of a control platform, four compressor platforms, and two utility platforms. Each compressor platform carries a 30,000 BHP Rolls Royce Turbine, driving a Dresser Clark three-stage compressor train. Under normal operating conditions, the combined gas turbine-driven compression modules were designed to compress 200 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day from 30 PSIG to 1810 PSIG.
